Social Media Victories: presentation by Patrick Schwerdtfeger for Bay Area Consultants — BACN

As a Bay Area Consultant myself, I was thrilled to attend my first BACN breakfast meeting and hear Patrick Schwerdtfeger tell 80 of us all about his “Social Media Victories.”

Patrick’s one-hour talk featured case studies where organizations leveraged Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and YouTube to increase revenue and brand awareness . . . but what most enlivened the audience were Patrick’s own experiences and lessons along Social Media Revolutionary Road.

Below are my videos from the morning as well as reactions from some of the attendees.

Patrick did a great job of presenting the core information about Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube. The material was all familiar to me, but I appreciated his arrangement of these four social networks as spokes around the hub of your blog. What stuck with me most was the advantage of going where your prospects already are, rather than strugling to build up traffic on your own website.” — Sallie Goetsch, The Podcast Asylum

“The one take-away I had was the “raging water” symbolism. It really does give justice to how viral and quick the pace of things in social media — and how you  need to throw yourself into the water and go with the flow. I also liked his case studies, which really drove home his points.” — Neil Schaeffer, Windmill Networking

“Patrick’s enthusiasm and passion for social media tools are infectious. Many thanks to BACN for a wonderful presentation which has inspired me to ACT.” — Yael Schy,  Dramatic Strides Consulting

“What I liked about Patrick was that he comes to this stuff with the same scepticism as I do. He doesn’t preach, but rather shares his amazement that using Web 2.0 can actually be very helpful in establishing one’s personal visibility and respectability, and therefore ultimately one’s business. The credibility of his low-key, easy-going style made me want to look further into what he was telling us about–and buy his book!” — Steven Tulsky, The Benemetrics Consulting Group

  1. Youtube specializes on user-generated content. Authentic videos are the ones that get watched. The presenter advises that when you want someone to be interested in your content, the best way to do it is with a video and the worst way is using text only. He claimed that the largest category on youtube is the educational videos. The most important tip he pointed out is get a high quality camera.

  2. The video about “Create a facebook fanpage” on Shari Weiss’ webpage explains how to promote your business by using your fanpage on Facebook.

For instance, you can not fans. The power of the page is the wall that folks can write on and everybody can see — which is cool because I would think you will gain more fans off of that.

Another great feature the video talked about was “Tag Photos,” which is my favorite part on facebook. Just think you may be at an event and you may have forgotten your camera and USHER may be there and your friend took a picture of you and you told everybody how happy you were that you got a picture with Usher and nobody believes you because you don’t have the picture to show proof. But you can simply log onto facebook and and you see a “Tag photo” of you and Usher — the proof is in the photo.

  3. In the video “Don’t have time for social media? Integrate Everything,” the presenter, Patrick Schwerdtfeger, explains his thoughts on how to make time for social media.

First, he explains what social media is. As the presentation keeps going he explains how that making one simple phone call can help populate his social media accounts. For example, facebook, twitter, myspace, linkedIn, friendfeed, etc.

He states that the most common thing is that no one has time for social media. There is always time for everything. For example, if you’re stuck in traffic, you simply pull out your phone and play with social media. There’s always time, but you just have to know when you can use it.

  4. In Video 8, “Don’t have time for social media? Integrate Everything,” The speaker, Patrick, explains how individuals can write alerts on their social media websites in 2 minutes or less. He defines social media as “Platforms that facilitate communication between users.” By using a program called “Utterli,” People are able to record voice messages and send them to their websites. In conclusion, the speaker has shown a brilliant way for people to get their message across on their websites without taking too much time out of their busy schedule.

  5. Summary of “twitter is about getting out the right titles”

The video “Twitter is about getting out the right titles” demonstrates different ways to get more followers on Twitter. The speaker provides 4 reasons to tweet as well as examples of corporate successes.

    My opinion:

I think this presentation will help a lot of twitters to get smarter on how to tweet successfully.

  6. Video number 4 gives four great reasons to tweet. But I find the people that share about their personal life also share too much about themselves that nobody cares about.

Example: “I’m going to the bathroom. be back later.”

That is too much and nobody will take them seriously.

  7. People talk about how they don’t use social media sites; in fact, they try to cut it out of their lives to make some kind of point. Wherever they go its still there; denying it doesn’t change social media at all.

The news, youtube, facebook, myspace, twitter, etc…. Everyone uses these things to get to know people, learn about business, promote their business, and connect with what’s happening in the world.

Sometimes I wonder what made someone come up with this great idea on getting everyone involved with such a small website or news that became more than just small in the eyes of an average person.

  8. In the video “Facebook and YouTube,” Patrick, explains why being on facebook and youtube can help you with your life. Most of the time youtube videos are of children falling of bikes or soem other comedy. Patrick said you can connect to your community that way and show educational content.

  9. I watched Video #8 “Don’t have time for Social Media? Integrate Everything” The content of the presentation was very useful. The speaker was very knowledgeable, and I definitely intend to use the information to be more effective with engaging in social media. The microblogging platform that really caught my attention was the utterli because it accepts audio then autopopulates to twitter icon, friendfeed, facebook, blog, and linked-in if you’re connected with each of those platforms. It is an awesome way to facilitate communication between yourself and other users.

  10. Presentation number eight is a very interesting clip — “You don’t have time for social media” is a very interesting topic that caught my eye. I have never been the best at working with technology, especially the computer layout of different web sites. This video is something that is going to motivate me to be a part of social media.

  11. Video 1, called, “Social Media Sites are Raging Rivers” drew in my attention with the title itself. With the direct comparison between social media and raging rivers, it illustrates a vivid picture of what is Social Media. This video explains that the internet is a giant raging river and those within the river are all searching for something. If those people are interested and willing to spend money on your idea then you have yourself an online market. Later explains that there are way to demonstrate your expertise within the raging river easy and efficient techniques.

  12. Video 8 Don’t have time for social media? Integrate everything…

The speaker Patrick Schwerdtfeger states in his speech that people claim they don’t have enough time for social media. He backs his speech up saying that everybody has at least 5 minutes out their day to where they can use their phone and connect it to their twitter, face book, and blog page to say something. It’s so simple and easy to be apart of.

    1. Patrick, I’ve been to several Social Media presentations lately and yours generated the most enthusiasm and motivation to get started. Great job! Many attendees bought your book because they knew your approach would work for them. Thanks.
